Jesuit ideal I most identify with: Cura Personalis and Magis. Caring for the person in front of me in much larger and deeper ways than would be expected.
Reasons why you enjoy working at Gonzaga: The Housing and Residence Life area of our function is active, complex, vibrant and always challenging. There is never a dull moment in a work day, nor a boring day. One can be challenged in the morning with a crisis of a flood in a building, and in the afternoon with a variety of budget tasks and strategy meetings, and the next day crafting up projections of revenue and proposing new rates, and later in that day a difficult conversation with a student not enjoying their residential experience. There is no monotony that descends upon our area of function. It's always interesting and always challenging.
What I enjoy about Spokane and the Northwest: Spokane feels like a large city, behaving like a medium sized town, making it easier to feel like a member. Surrounded by a forested area of Washington, it is easy to get away from city life on a bike, boat or skis and feel renewed and connected to nature. Spokane is rich in the arts, and in a deep variety in places of worship. I have deep and experienced appreciation for the Spokane District 81 K-12 educational system while raising my own children - a very solid and well-resourced school district!
Ways I have been able to get involved on-campus: I participate in mentoring programs for students and take the opportunity to journey with students who seek out mentoring - along their educational path and early years away from home.
Hobbies and Interests: Alpine skiing during snowstorms mid-week when very, very few people go. Mother nature grooms the slope while you are riding the lift so it always feels like freshly groomed terrain, unlike sunny weather and crowds on weekends. Off road, mountain bike riding in summer season. Late night movies at local theaters.

Jesuit ideal I most identify with: The magis.
Reasons I enjoy working at Gonzaga University: Gonzaga’s focus on its mission of helping students develop intellectually, spiritually, culturally, physically, and emotionally is real. I’ve never worked at an institution so focused on benefitting the mind, body, and spirit of its students to the degree that we do at Gonzaga. These are lofty goals, but I sense that everyone truly cares about the work, which is life-giving to me as a professional.
What I enjoy about Spokane and the Northwest: Nature surrounds us! Spokane speaks to me.
Ways I have been able to get involved on-campus: There's no shortage of people who want to engage with Housing and Residence Life. We're sought for our knowledge of students, for our connection with residents, and our abundant energy. My opportunities come from being a student advocate. People want that perspective at the table, which is refreshing to see.
Hobbies and Interests: I am a scuba diver; I've gone sky diving and paragliding; I enjoy traveling and eating top-notch pizza. I also run in marathons and half-marathons - though I can't say that I really enjoy running even though I run four days a week.

Jesuit ideal I most identify with: Cura Personalis because student affairs is all about caring for, and developing, the full person.
Reasons I enjoy working at Gonzaga University: We work with some outstanding faculty, staff, and students. The people here are warm, genuine, and hard working. The Jesuit ideals are outstanding, it really seems like the Jesuits had the student affairs thing down before the rest of us! I also enjoy the free tickets to the sold out Gonzaga basketball games.
What I enjoy about Spokane and the Northwest: I love the four seasons! I enjoy the size of Spokane (Spokane and Spokane Valley is about 300k), there is plenty to do, yet the traffic isn’t too bad.
Ways I have been able to get involved on-campus: Gonzaga gives full tuition remission, so I have received my MBA at Gonzaga. I also teach in the School of Business Administration here at GU, which is a great way to get some different student interaction. I have also met a lot of great people that play basketball and spend time together.

Jesuit ideal I most identify with: I agree the most with the "fundamental right of life" ideal. I believe that people should be able to live life in the best way possible. People should be able to complete the duties, responsibilities, and roles for their family and friends in a decent environment that betters their growth and development.
Reasons I like being a Residence Director: I enjoy working with my staff and seeing my residents' growth and maturity throughout the year. It's always amazing and inspiring to see how they handle the obstacles and challenges of life and come out on the other side with new perspective on how they view life and their contribution to the world.
Reasons I enjoy working at Gonzaga University: It's the first place where I've truly felt like I've belonged and felt like a true member of one's community. Since being at Gonzaga I'm consistently reminded why I chose this field and how I developed a passion for it. The students are truly the best of the best and working with the professional staff has been one of the positive experiences I've had since starting my career.
What I enjoy about Spokane and the Northwest: Coming from NYC, I enjoy the openness of the PNW and the opportunities to come out of my comfort zone and check out everything Spokane and nature has to offer.
Ways I have been able to get involved on-campus: I have had numerous opportunities to get involved within Residence Life as an RHA advisor and representative for professional staff and student staff hiring, and had great experiences working with campus partners as an IMPACT facilitator for Center for Cura Personalis, educational workshop facilitator for the Office of Community Standards, Staff/Faculty Advisor for Mission:Possible in Center for Community Engagement, worked with the Student Development team for professional development and an investigator for both OCS and Title IX.
Hobbies and Interests: Intramural Hockey team within Spokane, hanging around downtown Spokane with friends, swimming at CDA with my dog, and bartending at Arbor Crest Wineries!
- Master of Arts in Higher Education and Student Affairs, University of Portland, 2018
- Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Communication, Minor in Business Marketing and Business Management, George Fox University, 2013
Jesuit ideal I most identify with: I really like the focus of Cura Personalis and the care and development of the entire person. While we are an institution of higher education, this is also a time of intense development and self-discovery for students, and caring for our whole student is so critical for success.
Reason I like being a Residence Director: Some of the best experiences of my life happened while I was in undergrad, and knowing that I could play a role in helping another have just as an amazing college experience is what keeps me in this work. I love the community, fun, and randomness that Residence Life offers and having the opportunity to really get to know my student staff and invest in their lives makes all of the late nights worth it!
Reasons I enjoy working at Gonzaga University: GU attracts such a unique and hardworking type of student and I love the opportunity to walk alongside students as they embrace their choices and embark into young adulthood. GU also attracts some pretty amazing Student Affairs professionals and the opportunity to work and grow alongside my coworkers has been wonderful!
What I enjoy about Spokane and the Northwest: Northwest is best! Being a Portland Native, I could not bring myself to leave this region of the country. I am, however, pretty excited to see some blue skies between November and May! I also love the running trails around Spokane and all of the great restaurants that this city has to offer.
Ways I have been able to get involved on-campus: This is my first year on-campus and I hope to become involved with various student groups while also supporting the visions surrounding the Coughlin Community. I am excited about my opportunity for training in Restorative Justice and hope to find opportunities to serve student's needs throughout this next year.
Hobbies and Interests: I really enjoy spending time with friends and family, watching movies, cooking, baking, and day dreaming about my next trip abroad. I love being active by playing volleyball or running and will never turn down the opportunity to play corn hole!
- Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling, Loyola Marymount University, 2016
- Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Minors in Pastoral Leadership, Women and Gender Studies, Loyola University Chicago, 2011
Jesuit ideal I most identify with: Magis - a mentor I looked up to in college once told me that Magis was all about "not doing more, but being more," and that has always stuck with me. In my own life, I like to think about how I strive to be more intentional, more relational, more reflective, and more aware. This idea of Magis has informed how I've lived post-college, and keeps me grounded. I love when I can accompany students in their own understanding of Magis and what it can grow to mean for them.
Reasons I enjoy working at Gonzaga University: I'm a product of Jesuit education, and so my goal was to always get back to that. I think being able to work somewhere where the mission is truly lived out and people are so much more than a number has always been important to me. I think Gonzaga attracts truly remarkable students that are passionate and engaged, and I feel really grateful to have ended up here.
What I enjoy about Spokane and the Northwest: After being in Southern California for four years, I was so ready to get back to the Northwest. Moving to Spokane somewhat felt like coming home because I'm from the Portland, OR area - I love autumn, sweater weather, and being able to have an incredible outdoor playground, and I've wanted to get back to that for a while. I'm excited to experience a true winter again, too. I'm still getting to know Spokane, but I love that it's a city with small town feel- Spokane has some of the genuinely nicest people I've ever met.
Ways I have been able to get involved on-campus: I'm new to Gonzaga so I haven't been able to explore this much yet, but I'm looking forward to getting involved in Mission and Ministry, as that has long been a love of mine.
Hobbies and Interests: I love hanging out with my puppy, Sawyer, going on outdoor adventure, getting to know people, and cooking and baking.

What I enjoy about Spokane and the Northwest: I am very excited to start experiencing four seasons again after living in Southern California for the past eight years. The green is a welcomed change!
Ways I have been able to get involved on-campus: Retreats and Sports! I am a big fan of experiential learning, so I am excited to seek out opportunities to build strong interpersonal relationship with faculty, students and staff. I am also excited to start attending our sport games. My favorite sports are soccer, basketball and baseball.
Hobbies and Interests: I love staying active. My favorite way is being in the water. You can probably catch me on the Spokane River or at Coeur D'Alene Lake swimming, paddle boarding, or wake surfing (when its warm enough). I also enjoy watching movies with friends. I am a big fan of Quentin Tarantino and Wes Anderson films.

Jesuit ideal I most identify with: "Forming & Education Agents of Change." As a future teacher and education researcher, I hope to impact the next generation directly through my teaching and more widely in education research. I especially want to emphasize the value of global perspectives and intercultural engagement in the educational process. My own educators and mentors have invested so much in me to be an agent of change, and I believe in doing the same for tomorrow's leaders.
Reasons I enjoy working at Gonzaga University: In my roles as an RA, ARD and now GRD here, Housing and Residence Life has continuously provided a strong person-first work environment. At every level, work life has centered on relationship-building and promotion of self-care, aspects very representative of the Jesuit mission in action.
What I enjoy about Spokane and the Northwest: Spokane has been an easy place to settle into and get around the last few years as an undergrad and now a grad. The Pacific Northwest is definitely "home" to me, particularly the vibrant diversity of the Seattle area where I grew up. I go back to the westside any chance I get!
Ways I have been able to get involved on-campus: As an undergrad, I was very involved in my hall community each year, in intramurals (3x volleyball champ and 2x badminton champ), in social justice events, in my work as a Spanish tutor and copy editor for the Gonzaga Bulletin and in activities with international students. As a grad, I will continue tutoring ESL students and working for the Center Global Engagement with international student activities in addition to my involvement with Residence Life.
Hobbies and Interests: Language learning/language play, reading, volleyball, word games, hand-lettering on signs and cards, cooking Asian food and long talks with great friends.
- Master of Arts in Higher Education and Student Affairs, Messiah College, Expected May 2021

Jesuit ideal I most identify with: "Contemplatives in Action". This ideal perfectly sums up for me the calling of Christ - a life of reflection and pursuit of inner holiness that goes hand in hand with actively serving our neighbor. The markings of a healthy inner life are outward workings toward justice, peace, and humility in our communities.
Reasons I enjoy working at Gonzaga University: I have a passion for Residence Life and student development within faith-based higher education. Gonzaga's mission to care for students physically, emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually is something I care about deeply, and am so glad to have found a community that shares those values!

What I enjoy about Spokane and the Northwest: I love the beauty of the Northwest. We relocated so we could be closer to nature and here, you can do it all! I’ve spent every weekend exploring my way through Spokane and Coeur d’Alene!
Ways I have been able to get involved on-campus: So far, I’ve been focusing on sustainability efforts within the office, and I signed up for the Go Move challenge.
Hobbies and Interests: I play the cello (I’m pretty out of practice, but still have fun!), and enjoy singing when no one is around! I love camping, fishing, hiking, and swimming. This spring, I plan on building a potting shed/greenhouse for my garden and would love to get started planting more trees around my house.
Reasons I enjoy working at Gonzaga University: I love working with our students, and campus partners. I’ve met some of my favorite people while working at Gonzaga.
What I enjoy about Spokane and the Northwest: I love that Spokane has all four seasons. Weekends can easily be spent hiking, snowboarding, or at a lake. I am partial to the warmer weather activities, but I appreciate summer even more after a snowy winter.
Ways I have been able to get involved on-campus: I’m one of a handful of IDI (Intercultural Development Inventory) Qualified Administrators on Gonzaga’s campus which has allowed me to work with a variety of students, staff and faculty, educating others on cultural competency and having eye opening conversations with the Gonzaga community. - Master of Business Administration, Eastern Washington University, 2013
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Eastern Washington University, 2006
Jesuit ideal I most identify with: Cura personalis. I feel like it’s important to be attentive to yourself and your mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs in order to care for others and their needs. Accepting people for who they are and connecting on a deeper level in all aspects of life.
Reasons I enjoy working at Gonzaga University: I enjoy working at Gonzaga because of the small, community feel and that the mission is built on the Jesuit values. Having a value based mission fosters more meaningful relationships amongst faculty, staff and students and gives greater purpose to the work that we do. I really value the relationships I have made with colleagues and students across campus and the opportunities I am provided for personal and professional development.
What I enjoy about Spokane and the Northwest: Growing up in Montana, I have come to appreciate the Northwest. Spokane is a big city with a small town vibe (you are almost guaranteed to run into someone you know or are connected to in some way). There are all the dining and entertainment options you would find in a big city but are still the local hot spots that make you feel like you are in a small town. With the numerous outdoor recreation spots within a short drive, there are plenty of opportunities for a relaxing weekend getaway.
Ways I have been able to get involved on-campus: I work closely with a variety of departments across campus but mainly the Controller’s Office, Purchasing, Student Employment and Payroll in regards to budgets and finances. I am one of only a few Advanced Editors for our website on-campus which has provided me the opportunity to work closely with MarComm and assist other departments needing assistance with web edits. In addition to web editing, I am part of the Housing and Residence Life Social Media and Marketing committee which allows me to work closely with our student marketing assistant and use my creativity in ways I am unable to do with budgets.
Hobbies and Interests: I love working on craft projects and have been slightly obsessed with Pinterest projects lately. Outside of crafting, I enjoy spending time with friends, family and especially my four-legged baby boy, Raven. I have become more of a homebody over the past few years and enjoy relaxing and binging on the latest Netflix shows but I love to travel, experience new places and play volleyball and softball.
