The National College Health Assessment (NCHA) is a nationally recognized research survey organized by the American College Health Association to assist colleges and universities collect data about students' health habits, behaviors, and perceptions to help improve campus health programming and services. Gonzaga University administers the NCHA in the fall of even years.
NCHA FAQs
The NCHA provides Gonzaga staff and faculty with valuable information about the health, well-being, and experiences of our students. The results help us identify campus health trends, understand student needs, and make informed decisions about programs, services, and resources.
Survey results guide strategic planning and resource allocation and allow staff to compare Gonzaga’s results with national college health data to better understand how to support Gonzaga students.
The survey asks about a variety of health and wellness topics. Questions typically focus on students’ experiences, behaviors, perceptions, and overall well-being. Students are encouraged to answer honestly so Gonzaga can gain an accurate understanding of student health needs. Some of the topics may include:
Mental and emotional well-being
Physical health and health behaviors
Alcohol, cannabis, and other substance use
Sexual and reproductive health
Personal safety and violence prevention
Health care access and utilization
The NCHA survey is confidential, not anonymous. Your survey response will be anonymized upon survey submission. The American College Health Association (ACHA) and Qualtrics go to great lengths to ensure that a student email address cannot be linked to the survey responses.
The Qualtrics software generates a unique survey link for each student on the mailing list. The unique survey link is connected to a randomly generated Response ID number. The link between a student email address and a Response ID number is stored on the Qualtrics server, is not accessible to ACHA, and is destroyed by Qualtrics upon survey submission. Only the Response ID number for any given student is recorded with their survey responses. The NCHA survey is set to PREVENT the collection of a student’s name, email address, and IP address with their survey submission.
By participating in the NCHA, you can improve programs, services, and resources that support student well-being. Your response helps staff make data-informed decisions that reflect student’s experiences and use your voice to advocate for additional resources and support services.

Each full-time degree seeking student receives an email from ncha.web@acha.org. Check your Zagmail for your assessment link. Make sure to only use the link sent to your Zagmail as each link specific to each student.
The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete. If you can’t finish it in one sitting, you can start, stop, and return at a later time before the survey deadline.
The survey will be open from Tuesday, October 20th to Friday, November 13th. You must complete the survey by November 13th.
You may answer only some questions or you may choose not to participate in the assessment.
If you have questions or comments about the survey, please contact hello@ncha.gonzaga.edu
