ALEKS Placement, Preparation, and Learning (ALEKS PPL)
Math Placement for BioChemistry, Business, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Human Physiology, Mathematics and Physics Majors
Students majoring in the fields above may be required* to take an online math assessment for enrollment in their first-semester mathematics course. If you are required to complete a placement assessment, your schedule cannot be released until the assessment is complete.
ALEKS PPL, is a web-based program that uses artificial intelligence to map your mathematic strengths and weaknesses.
The placement assessment is designed to determine what you know and what you need to work on. At the end of the ALEKS PPL Assessment, you should have a much better sense of your math strengths and weaknesses, and can brush up on topics you may have forgotten in the Prep and Learning Module. Students who wish to improve their placement must spend time in the Prep and Learning Module before being allowed to retest. You may take ALEKS up to three times.

If you took the AP Calculus exam this year, we will not have your scores until July. To prevent delays in your enrollment, you will be asked to take the ALEKS assessment, but your placement may change pending the outcome of your AP Calculus exam scores. Students earning a 4 or 5 on their AP Exam for either Calculus AB or Calculus BC will either be exempt from Mathematics, or be placed at the next level, depending on degree requirements. AP Exam Scores will be sent to Gonzaga University in July from the College Board. If you did not select Gonzaga University to receive your scores, please contact the College Board and request to have them sent to Gonzaga as soon as possible.
* Students with college credit for mathematics courses may or may not take ALEKS. If your credit qualifies you to be exempt from this placement assessment, you will not receive an email directing you to take the exam.
