HOW CAN THE CENTER HELP YOU?

EDUCATION

Want to learn more about the community? This can include the history of the LGBTQ+ movement for equality, the evolution of terminology, and current issues. The Center is a a true hub for many resources.

  • Check out our library or check out a DVD!
  • Every month we host Out to Lunch with Allies where you can engage with fellow Zags about a number of queer topics while we feed you lunch. Check out our programming section on the website and our event calendar for dates and locations.
  • Pop in and chat with our staff! We have two full-time professional and four student staff in the center who are ready to answer your questions. If popping in is daunting, shoot us an email to set up an appointment.

BUILDING COMMUNITY

Social gatherings, movie nights, a place to study, a place to eat lunch... the Center is your resource to use and build your community of friends. It is normal (although intimidating) to just start coming in and hanging out. We have comfy couches so use them. You'll make friends here. Check out or programming for some of our events.

  • Lavender Mass: In the fall, we work with the Jesuit community to host a mass specifically affirming the faith of the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Join our SPEAR Cohort.
  • Networking: Connect with Lavender alumni and other business and industries who specifically want to support LGBTQ+ students.
  • Join a student organization. Undergraduates can join the Queer Student Union. You'll find their meeting days and location in Zagtivities.
  • Pride: Local pride events typically take place in the summer, if you're here in Spokane, come march with us in the parade!

SUPPORT

Support comes in many forms: mental, physical, academic, family... we're here to support you in whatever form you need on any given day. If you're struggling to find support from Gonzaga's many services, start with us and maybe we can plug you in to the right place.

  • Health + Wellness: Look for new programming around improving your mental and physical state with support groups. More to come!
  • Academic: We might not be experts in all your subjects, but come by and see if we know something that will help. Maybe one of our students has taken the same class recently and has tips?  Or check in with our staff who have a too much education between them.
  • Family: Heading off to college is a big change for you and for your family. It's possible you're figuring things out about yourself and you need to get your family on board. Check in with us to learn more about coming out when you go home and other ways to help the family drama.
