Clarke Family History at Gonzaga Law

The Ethics CLE and generous writing competition for students are both made possible by The Harvey and Harriet Clarke Fund for Professionalism and Ethics. This fund, which was endowed in the late 1980’s, was designed to support the law library, as well as Gonzaga Law School’s continued commitment to teaching and promoting professionalism and ethics for both law students and lawyers. Harvey Clarke, who served in World War II, grew up in Spokane and received both his B.A. and J.D. from the University of Michigan. Harvey was a well-respected Spokane jurist who was known for his commitment to ethics. Both Harvey and Harriet were involved with, and well respected in, the Spokane community.

William Clarke, one of Harvey and Harriet’s four children, served as both Professor of Law and Associate Dean from 1975-2005. Bill was a student favorite and was also committed to carrying out his parent’s legacy to promote professionalism and ethics. While at Gonzaga, Bill coached the National Moot Court team to a run of eight straight trips to nationals in New York. The Clarke legacy continues as Genevieve Mann (’08, JD) currently serves as a faculty member in University Legal Assistance.
