Current interest rate: 5% fixed
Net fee per disbursement: 0%
Grace period: 9 months
Repayment: $50/month minimum; 10 year repayment period

Loan Deferment, Consolidation, and Cancellation:
The Carrie Welch loan cannot be consolidated with other federal loans. Borrowers are eligible for the following deferment types if they qualify:

In school deferment (attending at least half time)
  • No interest accrues
  • Qualifies for a new 6-month grace period after
Forbearance (up to 12 months at a time, 3 year maximum)
  • Interest accrues
  • Does not qualify for new grace period
Unemployment ( up to 6 months at a time, 3 year maximum)
  • No interest accrues
  • Qualifies for a new 6 month grace period after.
Economic Hardship (up to 6 months at a time, 3 year maximum)
  • No interest accrues
  • Qualifies for a new 6 month grace period after.
Special Billing (reduce monthly payments for up to one year at a time)
  • Total repayment cannot exceed 10 years.
