Intergroup Dialogue

INTERGROUP DIALOGUE (CURRICULAR DIALOGUE OPTION)

At GU, we use the University of Michigan Intergroup Dialogue (IGD) curriculum, which “blends theory and experiential learning to facilitate students' learning about social group identity, social inequality, and intergroup relations. The program prepares students to live and work in a diverse world and educates them in making choices that advance equity, justice, and peace. IGR was founded in 1988 and was the first program of its kind.”

Intergroup Dialogue at GU began in 2013 with two co-curricular groups focused on racial identity. Since then, we have grown significantly offering co-curricular groups focused on race, gender, socio-economic class, and faith and spirituality.

Since 2018, we have been able to offer credit-bearing curricular Intergroup Dialogues thanks to our partnership with Communication Studies. Each semester, depending on interest, we offer a 3-credit Core Integration Seminar (fall), our JASPA award-winning 3-credit First Year Experience (spring), and 1-credit 10-week Dialogue experience, all focused on race and ethnicity. Courses require pre-approval to enroll in and sign-up begins the week before registration opens.
