About
Gonzaga’s Jesuit, Catholic, Humanistic education will challenge and inspire you.
Pursuing a graduate or doctoral degree at Gonzaga University is an investment in your future. We strive to provide transparency in the financial cost of your academic journey so you can plan financially and achieve your degree with clarity and confidence.
The Cost of Attendance (COA) is the total estimated cost of attending your graduate program for one academic year and includes all expenses that may be incurred. COA is a combination of direct and indirect costs: direct costs being the costs billed to you from Gonzaga and indirect costs being the costs that are not billed to you from Gonzaga but estimated expenses that you may incur.
Please review the following Cost of Attendance document to find information about direct and indirect costs specific to your program of study. When reviewing the document, it is important to note the Academic Year as this will indicate what terms are included in your budget. If the Cost of Attendance document lists your academic year as fall and spring, you have been budgeted for 9-months and if the document lists your academic year as fall, spring and summer, then you have been budgeted for 12-months. It's important to understand COA because it is the maximum amount of financial aid assistance a student can receive in all forms: scholarships, grants, work-study and reflects the maximum eligibility a student can borrow in loan funding.
Direct costs are billed to you directly from Gonzaga and will typically include tuition and required fees. Most graduate programs charge tuition per credit hour, while some graduate programs charge banded tuition (meaning that a single flat tuition rate will be charged for a range of credit hours). To determine your tuition charge and understand information about required fees, you are encouraged to review the Tuition & Fees webpage. It is important to understand that the cost of attendance document reflects average tuition and required fee components. Specific tuition and required fees vary depending on enrollment and program. Below is an example to aid in your understanding.
Indirect costs are estimated expenses not billed to you directly from Gonzaga and typically include housing, food/meals, books/supplies, loan fees, personal expenses and transportation. Indirect costs are estimated costs and sometimes not reflective of actual expenses the student will incur.
If components of the student's budget do not reflect their actual expenses incurred, the student can submit a Budget Adjustment/Loan Increase Request from along with documentation to have their budget re-evaluated. This form is available on the Forms and Resources webpage.
