Professional Development

All CHS instructors are asked to attend a discipline-specific professional development meeting at Gonzaga University once a year, with a focus on continued collaboration with Gonzaga faculty mentors to further enhance instructor's pedagogy and breadth of knowledge in the discipline. Professional development meetings will be held annually in August, and attendance is required. The agenda from the 2023-24 professional development meeting is available below:

9:00-9:30 - Welcome & Introductions - Gonzaga Foley Library Room 101 (bring personal computers)

9:30-9:45 - GU College in the High School Update

9:45-12:30 - Breakout Sessions - By Discipline

  5. COMM (Foley 007C)

Objectives:

  1. Side-by-side comparison, 1 paired student assessment (e.g., final exam, lab exercise, grading rubric)
  2. Teaching evaluation department norms/processes
  3. Onsite evaluation norms/process - how onsite visit will inform PD
  4. Disciplinary topic relevant to the field
  5. Check course descriptions GU/G Prep and Syllabus

12:30-1:00 - Wrap-up & Conclusion: Feedback/strategies on any issues/concerns that have come up in breakout sessions
