Sunshine and mild temperatures made for a pleasant, very upbeat Welcome Walk.

Staff Formation Cohort

In Spring 2022, the Office of Mission and Ministry piloted a multi-phase staff formation program called Cardoner. Bringing together staff from departments across the university, Cardoner is intended to foster connection with Gonzaga’s mission, university colleagues, and one’s own sense of meaning and purpose.

This cohort-based program invites staff to encounter and explore both Ignatian Spirituality and the distinctive mission of Jesuit higher education. Through conversation, reflection, and experiential components, staff consider how those traditions might be brought dialogue with the expertise and wisdom they bring to their work as staff professionals.

The first year of the Cardoner Staff Formation Program orients participants to one another and key topics in Jesuit higher education including: Ignatian Spirituality and Ignatian Pedagogy, the Catholic Intellectual Tradition, and contemporary expressions of Jesuit mission (ie. the Universal Apostolic Preferences and the Service of Faith and the Promotion of Justice).

The second year focuses on integration into one’s work and life through experiences, including practices of reflection and discernment, as well as participation in the local community through engagement with Opportunity Northeast (Gonzaga’s place-based initiative).
