The School of Engineering & Applied Science utilizes the most up-to-date teaching techniques both in and out of the classroom. All engineering and computer science students are required to have a laptop computer for their course work.
2020 Approved Laptops for Engineering and Computer Science

- Lenovo (Must create an online e-account to view laptops)
- Microsoft with Intel Core i7/NVIDIA graphics (Full selection should be available June 1)
Additional option for Computer Science
Requirements:
- Advanced graphics card (Some models include ATI FireGL, ATI FirePro, NVidia Quadro FX line)
- 500Gb free hard drive space for required apps
Recommendations:
- A four-year warranty
- An extra power supply
- A network adapter (Most laptops no longer come with one)
- A portable mouse is helpful.

Unfortunately due to some of the software packages that you could be using as an upperclassman, we had to limit the laptop choices to only PCs for most engineering students. Computer Science students may bring an Apple laptop.
Most engineering software doesn't work on Mac products.
Computer Science programs are too large to run properly on the MacBook Air.
All Computer Science and Engineering students have access to an online repository of all apps/software used in SEAS programs.
