Reference Desk
The reference librarians are available to provide research support for short-term projects (up to 10 hours duration) on a first-come, first-served basis. The time frame for completion of projects will be established with you at the time the work is requested. We encourage you to make requests well in advance of the time when your research is needed so that your research schedule can be met. The purpose of this service is to provide timely research for limited projects. Requests may be made to the library director at (509) 313-3739. For long-term or ongoing research projects, faculty members are encouraged to hire research assistants.
Reference assistance is available at the Reference Desk from 9 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Limited reference support is available at other times. If you need reference support and find no librarian at the Reference Desk, please ask at the Circulation Desk to speak with one of the reference librarians.
Research Assistant and Training Support
At your request, the reference librarians will train your research assistants in the process of legal research. We will also meet one-on-one with your research assistants to suggest research strategies for particular research projects. Contact the library director at (509) 313-3739.
Training On the Use of Electronic Resources
Librarians will provide training on the use of electronic resources, such as LexisNexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, HeinOnline, and other databases. Please contact the Reference staff to schedule a training session.
Periodical Routing
At your request, the Library will route specified periodicals to you. Items selected are routed at the time they are received in the Library. After use, please return the items to the Library or pass them on to the next person on the routing list. To request that a periodical be routed to you, call (509) 313-3757.
Placing an Item On Faculty Reserve
Faculty Reserve lets you make class materials, your own or library-owned, available to students for short-term use. Materials placed on Faculty Reserve are kept behind the Circulation Desk and circulate for two hours or for a period of your choice.
You may submit Faculty Reserve items by one of the following methods:
- Deliver your material to the Circulation Desk.
- Phone the Circulation Desk, (509) 313-5792, to arrange for a library staff person to pick up material from your office.
Interlibrary Loan
For materials not owned by Chastek Library, you may request an Interlibrary Loan. .
