Our Mentors are GU students who love God and the outdoors, and through servant-leadership, they foster spiritual companionship in the teams of Explorers

Joey Angelo

Hometown: Vancouver, WA

Majors: Economics, Religious Studies, and Spanish

Fun Fact: I lived in Spain for a few months when I was in the 8th grade

 

Ethan Davis

Hometown: San Diego, CA

Major: Human Physiology

Fun Fact: I'm related to the queen of Hawai'i

 

Alejandra Orozco

Hometown: Othello, WA

Major: Communication Studies, a recent grad

Fun Fact: I once got stung by a bee because it flew in my hair and I did not know :)

 

Gus Sablan

Hometown: I am from the beautiful island of Guam!

Major: Accounting

Fun Fact: I can climb a coconut tree, grab a coconut, husk it, and then eat it

 

Mari Santos

Hometown: Wenatchee, WA

Major: Mathematics with a secondary education endorsement and a minor in French

Fun Fact: I've been to three out of the five great lakes - Lake Huron, Lake Superior and Lake Michigan

 

Nick Watson

Hometown: San Diego, CA

Majors: Philosophy and Math, Minor in Music

Fun Fact: I composed a biographical musical about my grandpa in HS!

 

Navigator

Our Navigator is responsible for coordinating the program schedule, communicating with collaborators, and managing administrative tasks

Kelly Bender

Hometown: Orange County, CA

Major: Special Education with dual certification in Special Education and Elementary Education

Fun Fact: I grew up sailing

 

Guardian

A GU Outdoors trip leader with wilderness medicine training and extensive backcountry experience, our Guardian manages safety and logistics during Explore

Josh Campbell

Hometown: I’m from just outside Boulder, CO

Major: Human Physiology

Fun Fact: I went to China and adopted a little sister

 

Ally

A former Mentor, our Ally's role is to support the current Mentors through prayer, spiritual accompaniment, and training in pedagogical and ministerial engagement

Sandra Vargas

Hometown: I'm from Colombia (in South America)

Major: Master's in Organizational Leadership

Fun Fact: I don’t like cheese… BUT I eat pizza and lasagna 🤓

 

Weaver

Our Weaver is the lead instructor and host who threads together the themes of Explore while narrating the shared story we co-create

Hometown: I'm originally from Clarksville, TN, but I now call Cleveland, OH home

Work: I'm the Director of Integral Ecology at the Ignatian Solidarity Network

Fun Fact: I was born in Germany, though I am not German

Our Director is responsible for visioneering, serving the Leadership Team, and charting out the physical and spiritual landscapes of Explore
