Gonzaga Information Technology Services (ITS) is dedicated to delivering high-quality technology to our faculty, staff, and students. There are many options in the realm of technology, and ITS would like to take this opportunity to inform you how to prepare your student for technology on campus best. Below are a few topics to be aware of before arriving on campus:
There is no mandated computer/operating system/software package for most students on campus. The standard in campus classrooms are Windows-based systems. Students will use PC or Mac and it is based on preference.
The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences is the only school/college that has specific laptop requirements. Please review the SEAS Laptop Requirements.
Only certain televisions are compatible with the cable services in residence halls. We recommend bringing a major brand such as LG, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba or Visio, 2007 or newer. As streaming TV has become more popular, please keep in mind the following guideline:
- Devices must have 802.1x authentication with WPA2/AES encryption
- Supported devices include: Apple TV, Amazon TV, Roku 2 and 3
- Devices not supported include: Chromecast, Roku Streaming Stick, Roku 1, and Amazon Fire TV Stick
Personal wireless printers are very common but are not compatible with our wireless network. ITS recommends using the printing services located in the Foley Library, as well as seven other academic buildings across campus.
Landline phones are available in common areas of residence halls. If you would like a telephone installed in your dorm room, please submit a request by emailing email@example.com.
All active students can download a copy of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to use while they are a student at the university. The free copy can be download from the settings menu of Zagmail.
