Types of Financial Aid

There are essentially three types of Financial Aid that are available.

  1. Scholarships and Grants: Scholarships and Grants consist of institutional, state, federal or outside sources of funding that do not need to be repaid. This can include a merit scholarship, GU Funding, Federal Supplemental Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Federal Pell Grant, Washington State Need Grant (WSNG), Washington Educational Opportunity Grant (EOG) and outside scholarships. Participants of Phi Theta Kappa are also offered scholarship opportunities.

Scholarships and grants are based on merit and/or financial need.

  2. Work Study: Work study is an opportunity for employment for those students with demonstrated financial need. In essence, it is the possibility for you to work no more than 19 hours per week to earn money to use as spending money or to help pay for your tuition. 3. Loans: Loans are repayable awards, designed to help cover college costs. All students are eligible for Stafford Loans and students with high financial need may also qualify for a Perkins Loan. In addition, Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) and alternative loans are available.
