International Health Insurance

All Gonzaga students, faculty and staff traveling abroad for university-related purposes are required to be enrolled in health insurance which covers them overseas and which provides coverage for emergency medical evacuation and repatriation of remains.

Students

Students participating in university-sponsored international programs are automatically enrolled in the Gonzaga University CIGNA Travel plan. Enrollment in the Study Abroad Plan is managed through the Study Abroad Office (SAO). The program’s department or group leader will work with SOA to complete the enrollment process.

CIGNA coverage summary

We recommend that all students traveling abroad confirm coverage with your primary health insurance provider, in case additional coverage is needed while abroad. As needed, purchase supplemental health insurance for the period of time you will be overseas. Any maintenance medications should be filled prior to the trip. These and other recommendations are included in your study abroad/away pre-departure orientation with the SOA, please review those material carefully.

Faculty and Staff

The Gonzaga insurance plan provides coverage through CIGNA for employees traveling on behalf of Gonzaga. Contact the Benefits Office for more information about the specific international coverage that is included in your policy. Faculty leading short-term study abroad programs managed via the Study Abroad Office are automatically enrolled in the plan. If you are enrolled in a non-university health insurance plan, confirm coverage with that provider directly. Should you need additional coverage for the time that you are traveling overseas, you may choose one of the following options:

  1. Automatic enrollment in the CIGNA Fac/Staff plan.
  2. Purchase coverage from another provider.
