AI At Gonzaga Image

Artificial Intelligence at Gonzaga University

Saint Ignatius, founder of the Jesuits was always looking to the future and advocated for the exploration of new frontiers of education. 2023 saw the launch of one of the most important tools for learning in human history, Generative AI built on Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT. New tools such as ChatGPT, Bard, Stable Diffusion and others can produce text, images, and other media quickly and efficiently. They can also help with brainstorming ideas, finding information, understanding readings, and creating materials. They are, however, limited and you, as Zags, need to understand their practical and ethical uses and limitations. Most importantly, if you use AI tools, you and you alone are responsible for the work you produce using these tools both here at Gonzaga and in your future work. In keeping with the long-standing focus of the Jesuits, the Instructional Design and Delivery Office and Center for Teaching and Advising, along with faculty collaborators from across Gonzaga, are exploring the impact of these powerful new technology tools on the frontiers of teaching and learning.
