About
Gonzaga’s Jesuit, Catholic, Humanistic education will challenge and inspire you.

Dear Staff and Administrators,
The University continues to respond to student reports of racist and threatening language, as well as disturbing behaviors seen and heard during recent on-campus and off-campus events. Racist language and harassment are never acceptable and are incompatible with the mission-based values of Gonzaga University.
Consistent with our policies and processes, the University has initiated investigations into the reports received. As with all investigations, appropriate action will be taken to ensure accountability, consistent with our policies and processes.
We are also aware of an increase in racist and dehumanizing posts on the anonymous social media app Fizz. While the app is not sanctioned or endorsed by the University, users are required to provide a university-issued email address to join, which allows the user to interact within a feed tied to their college or university. Because of this, students who use the app see racist or discriminatory posts that are anonymous but could be coming from a fellow student (or recent student). Racist, harassing or discriminatory online behavior causes real harm to those targeted and erodes trust and belonging in our community. It also violates the University’s Student Code of Conduct, Employee Policies and Procedures Manual (myGU login required) and Information Technology Use Policy.
The President’s Task Force is actively monitoring these issues and taking action. If you witness or experience behavior that is racist, threatening, or makes you feel unsafe, report it immediately. We have also sent out separate messages today to faculty and students addressing these incidents and sharing reporting resources.

Gonzaga’s Jesuit, Catholic, and humanistic mission calls us to affirm the inherent dignity of every person. As shared in previous messages from President Passerini, we must remain attentive and be the best versions of ourselves when we engage with one another, both in person and online.
Sincerely,
President’s Task Force on Accompaniment, Safety and Belonging
Gonzaga University
