Diversity Monologues is a beloved program where student performers share their personal and authentic stories from their lived experiences and cultural exposures that invite the audience in to reflect upon the human experience.
UMEC hosts regular co-curricular programs that focus on a social justice issue and highlights the experiences of historically underrepresented and traditionally marginalized communities. Our programs fall within different themes. While we now focus on Multiple Lens Film Series, F.O.M.O., and Male Allyship, these are past themes:
Speak Up Series — Speak Up Series provides a platform for guest lecturers, spoken word poets, and students within our community to share their stories and experiences. Some guests we’ve brought to campus include Denice Frohman, Alex Dang, and Tim Wise.
Talk About it Thursdays (TAIT)- Talk about it Thursdays brings in a guest speaker to campus. These events focus on a flow of topics and conversations about relevant topics in navigating student life. Prior TAIT speakers have included Will Davis, former NFL player, with the topic of life management.
