Scholarship opportunities are available, but can sometimes to be tricky to find. What we have on this page is not a comprehensive list by any means.
Gonzaga in Florence Scholarship: Scholarships in addition to a student’s current offer package are available for eligible students participating on the Gonzaga in Florence program. Any applicant for the term will be considered for a Gonzaga in Florence scholarship; there is not a separate application to complete. Criteria considered for eligibility are:
- Current FAFSA application on file with Gonzaga Financial Aid office
- GPA and satisfactory academic progress
- Financial need - based on EFC in current FAFSA

National Scholarship Programs
- Boren Scholarship: The National Security Education Program (enable U.S. students to pursue specialization in area and language study or to add an international dimension to their education. Boren Fellowships support students pursuing the study of languages, cultures, and world regions that are critical to U.S. national security and less frequently studied by U.S. graduate students. The maximum offer for study abroad is $10,000 per semester. Go to their website to learn more.
- Fulbright Scholarships: Offers a variety of offer types. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs. Go to their website to learn more.
- Gilman International Scholarship: The Gilman Scholarship program is offered to undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding on study abroad programs worldwide. Students are eligible to receive up to $5,000 for semester long study abroad programs. Pell Grant recipients interested in this scholarship are highly encouraged to meet with the Study Abroad office staff to discuss the application process and tips. Go to their website to learn more.
Location or Program-Specific Scholarships
- AIFS Scholarships: Students eligible for these scholarships would be participants on an AIFS program to Paris, South Africa, or London. Go to their website to learn more.
- Bridging Scholarship: Japanese Bridging project provides scholarship opportunities to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. Bridging Scholarship recipients receive a stipend of $2,500 (for students on semester-long programs) or $4,000 (for students on academic year programs). Students studying in Japan on summer programs are not eligible to apply. Go to their website to learn more.
- Critical Language Scholarships for Intensive Summer Institutes: This scholarship is part of the National Security Language Initiative, a U.S. government interagency effort to encourage Americans to study critical need foreign languages. The scholarship will provide funding for U.S. citizen undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D. students to participate in beginning, intermediate and advanced level summer language programs at American Overseas Research Centers in eleven critical need foreign languages (Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla/Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu). - Go Overseas: Offers a small selection of scholarships to specific locations or programs to eligible applicants. Go to their website to learn more.
- Fund for Education Abroad: Fund for Education Abroad offers scholarships to US citizens or permanent residents currently enrolled as undergraduates in US universities/colleges who plan to study abroad for at least four weeks.
