Dr. Rindge joined the GU Religious Studies faculty in 2008, and has also taught at Emory University, Candler School of Theology, Columbia Theological Seminary, and in six Asian, Latin American, and European countries.

He is the author of the books Profane Parables: Film and the American Dream (Baylor University Press, 2016) and Jesus’ Parable of the Rich Fool: Luke 12:13-34 among Ancient Conversations on Death and Possessions (SBL, 2011). His third book, Bible and Film: The Basics (Routledge) is scheduled to appear in 2021.

His articles on New Testament, Hebrew Bible, and Bible and Film have appeared in many journals (Journal of Biblical Literature, Catholic Biblical Quarterly, Teaching Theology and Religion, Review & Expositor, Journal of Lutheran Ethics, Interpretation), and he has published over a dozen chapters in edited volumes (Bible and Cinema: Fifty Key Films; The Bible in Motion: Biblical Reception in Film; Apocalypses in Context: Apocalyptic Currents throughout History; Close Encounters between Bible and Film: An Interdisciplinary Engagement; T&T Clark Companion to the Bible and Film; The Wiley Blackwell Companion to Wisdom Literature; Jesus and Film Companion; Protestantism on Screen: Religion, Politics, and History in European and American Movies). He has also contributed essays on Film for the Encyclopedia of the Bible and Its Reception.

His articles on Religion and Culture have appeared in media outlets such as The Washington Post, Religion News Service, and The Huffington Post.

In the Society of Biblical Literature, Dr. Rindge chaired the Bible and Film section (2013-18), the Scripture and Film section (2012-13), and he served on the steering committee for the Bible and Popular Culture section (2009-17). He continues to serve on the Bible and Film steering committee. In 2011, he was honored with SBL’s Paul J. Achtemeier Award in New Testament Scholarship, awarded to a scholar only once during their career, and he has received two Gonzaga University Exemplary Faculty Awards (2012 and 2018).

For several years Dr. Rindge served on Gonzaga’s Sexual Assault Response Team.
