About the Morris Undergraduate Research Fellowship
Established in 2017 thanks to a generous donation from Scott ('80, '89) and Liz (Tomich, '80) Morris, the Morris Undergraduate Research Fellowships are awarded to support student-faculty research teams primarily in the College of Arts & Sciences.
Fellowship Details
- Awarded to original, student-initiated research conducted primarily during the summer. Priority will be given to projects in the humanities and social sciences as well as interdisciplinary projects involving at least one of these areas.
- Both the student and the faculty mentor receive a stipend for this work (which is considered part-time).
- Fellows and mentors are required to meet as a group (in-person) six times over the summer during Summer Sessions 1 and 2, plus attend a celebration meeting shortly before fall classes begin. There are also two evening social events.
- Final reports are due a few days before the first day of fall semester classes.
- Project presentations will be given during Fall Family Weekend's Undergraduate Research & Creative Activity Showcase.
Eligibility
- Only students with a major in the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) or an Economics major at Gonzaga University may apply.
- Students must be returning to Gonzaga’s main campus for continued full-time study in the fall after the summer fellowship. Students studying abroad in the fall are not eligible.
- Students must find a full-time Gonzaga University faculty member to sponsor their research project; while this mentor would typically be a faculty member in CAS, we will consider faculty in other schools on a case-by case basis as long as the research topic is in a CAS discipline (or Economics).
- Students who have already received a Morris Fellowship are ineligible to apply again.
