Elevator Outage Procedure

Elevator Outage Procedure

Elevators are what make it possible for students for whom stairs are a barrier to access your classroom or office. If an elevator stops working and a student can not make it to class, please do not penalize this absence. We rely on Plant Services to inform us of outages and attempt to contact all professors who have an affected student. However, even if you do not hear from our office, the student should discuss the absence with you. Consider this a valid notification to excuse the absence and assist the student with acquiring missed information/materials. You can always double check with Disability Access or Plant Services (x5656) regarding the date/time of elevator outages.

What do I do if an elevator goes down during class or an office visit and I have a student who is stuck in the building?

Please contact Disability Access 509-313-4134 or Security 509-313-2222 immediately if this happens AND/OR fill out this Access Barrier Form

Do not attempt to lift or carry an individual up or down stairs.
