Because of you, our trusted friends and supporters, Gonzaga just completed the most successful fundraising effort in our history. You’ll see a full report on the closing of the Gonzaga Will campaign, accompanied by our listing of donors and special recognition of those who have given for 50 years or more in the annual report. As with each of our annual reports, you’ll also find our listing of donors and special recognition of those who have given for 50 years or more. Every name represents the ability to develop innovative programs, to support a student in need, to bolster academic research, to ensure that, even amid turbulent times in higher education, Gonzaga will resolute in its Catholic, Jesuit and humanistic mission.
Your investment in Gonzaga’s mission is more important now than ever before. Over the past few years, I have shared with our faculty, staff and board members the grim reality facing many institutions of higher education. With increasing competition and significant reductions in federal funding, every year there are schools closing – not just in economically distressed areas of the country, but also here in the Northwest. There are simply too many institutions for the demand, and families are focused on the advertised price, sometimes without an apples-to-apples comparison of how aid packages impact the final cost. I am continually encouraging our faculty and staff not to fear change but to welcome it, to embrace it as the key to developing new solutions that will ensure our continued success in challenging times.
But this – as uncomfortable as it is to discuss – brings me to a point of immeasurable gratitude.
I am grateful this year not only for the partnership of so many in reaching fundraising milestones but also for the possibility that now exists to create an endowment that matches the potential of Gonzaga University. The relationships we enjoy in this community, this region, and throughout the country, put us in a place to embrace the future with great enthusiasm and vigor. You are a part of this movement. You play an integral role in where we go in the next step of our journey.
For your collaboration, your investment, your expertise and your friendship, we are eternally grateful.
