Standards of Conduct

 
The University strives to avoidexcessive restrictions on employees' conduct. However, sincereasonable standards are necessary for the orderly conduct ofUniversity business, the University has established, and willcontinue to establish, reasonable conduct standards consistent withthe University's Mission Statement, values, and commitment toinsuring that all employees work in an environment which fostersmutual respect and professionalism. Proper performance of duties,appropriate professional conduct, and treating others with courtesyand respect at all times are essential requirements of everyemployee's job. Employees who do not abide by these standards mayreceive Counseling and/or Corrective Action as appropriate.

When determining appropriate responses to conduct violations,the University is guided by fundamental fairness, objectivity, andreasoned discretion. However, serious misconduct may result inimmediate dismissal from employment. Conduct which may beconsidered serious includes, but is not limited to violent,verbally or physically abusive, or threatening behavior; workingunder the influence of drugs or alcohol; stealing Universityequipment, funds, or material; harassment or discriminationimproper practices such as any illegal, fraudulent, dishonest,negligent, or otherwise unethical action relating to Universityoperations, finances,or activities. The University has developedseparate policy statements which address these issues morecompletely.
