A thorough orientation and training period is the best way to ensure a new employee has an opportunity to succeed. Human Resources will invite new employees to their New Employee Orientation day, where they will hear from representatives across campus including such topics as Mission, Intercultural Relations, Security & Parking, Payroll, Personnel Policies, and more. Additionally, they will also be able to take a campus tour and sign up for benefits
Human Resources encourages managers to take appropriate pre-planning steps to welcome new employees on their first day, weeks, and months to smoothly transition them into their new role. Below, the Right Start packet is a set of tools to assist hiring managers in preparing to welcome and orientate their new employee. Included in this packet are the Manager's New Hire Checklist, New Employee's Checklist and samples of documents such as a First Day Agenda, Key Objectives & Expectations, Department Goals/Mission/Vision, department member's names, job titles, and extensions, and more. These sample documents are created as a guide for managers to insert their own information to present to new employees upon their arrival.
We have also included questions to assist the hiring manager in generating discussions to help ease the anxiety and learning curve experienced by people starting a new job, as they adjust to their new position, department and University.
