Fitness is a way of life for José. He enjoys running, weight lifting, biking, golf, tennis, basketball, baseball, and any other sport. He also reads fitness publications and learns from his colleagues about other areas of fitness, such as group fitness and yoga. He and his family enjoy outdoor activities, and José takes great pleasure in watching his twin boys growing up to be active, healthy, sports enthusiasts.
The best thing about working in the fitness center for José is seeing and contributing to the life-transforming results of fitness and healthy living for the students and staff who come to the center. He has a passion for helping people, by coming along side them with fitness and nutrition guidance, but more importantly, by encouraging them to pursue their goals and see their potential.
José is committed to training and encouraging individuals to get excited about their health and wellness. He believes that making the commitment to come to the fitness center is the key in the process of achieving a true lifestyle transformation. Individualized workouts, orientation in weight lifting techniques, and nutrition counseling are some of the ways that José will partner with anyone who is looking to make fitness a way of life.

David Martin - Assistant Director of the Rudolf Fitness Center
We would like to welcome David Martin to the Rudolf Fitness Center. He comes to us from the middle of Washington, where he grew up in the small town of Quincy. He recently received his Exercise Science degree from Central Washington University, and shortly after worked as a fitness center supervisor for the premier golf resort, Suncadia. In addition to that occupation, he also worked as personal trainer, volunteer firefighter, and men’s high school basketball coach in the months prior to coming to GU. David played college basketball for 3 different schools and has a passion for the game as well as fitness in general. He also brings his knowledge of aquatics to the fitness center as he has been associated with pools for 10 years now. Mr. Martin likes to spend his free time being actively involved in the community, playing sports of all kinds, running, lifting, swimming, and finding time to improve his horrible golf game.
“This is pretty much my dream job”, he said, “I get to work with great people, stay in shape by having access to a premier facility, and do what I love for a living.”
David will be helping out with organizing and supervising intramurals, as well as working alongside the student staff to make sure that the students, and the staff, have the best possible experience here at Gonzaga.
