Planning Your Visit
Hours and Access:
Special Collections hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. We are closed Saturday and Sunday and University holidays. Special arrangements can be made to access to Archives outside of these hours. Please contact us in advance to make these arrangements.
While using our collections, we can make available a laptop with an internet connection or an internet connection for you to use on your own computer. Please let us know in advance and we will arrange to have either ready for you when you arrive.
Directions to the Foley Center:
From I-90
- Take Exit 282 - Hamilton Street/Trent Street. (Expect DELAYS in summer due to I-90 construction.)
- Go straight through the light at the bottom of the exit ramp and continue North on Hamilton.
- Take a left on the second street (Desmet Avenue).
From Highway 2 or Highway 395 from northern Spokane County or Canada
- Follow the highways south past the "Division Y"
- This turns into Division Street
- Follow Division Street for about 5 miles
- Take a left on Sharp Avenue and continue on Sharp Avenue through the light
- Take a right on Dakota Street
- Follow Dakota Street and it will turn into Desmet Avenue as you turn left

Once on campus, Special Collections is located in the Foley Center Library, a red brick building in the heart of it all.

Enter the main entrance of the library and take either the stairs on the right or the elevator on the left to the third floor. Once on the third floor, enter through the double wooden doors into the William Hutchinson Cowles, 3rd Rare Books Library. In the Reading Room is our exhibition area and the point of accessing our collections is at our reference desk in this room.
Parking:
Parking is available on the street or with a visitor's pass in the green lots. In order to receive the visitor's parking pass, you may temporarily park in the COG lot and retrieve your pass from us. You must move your vehicle after that point to a green lot. Please note we will need the following information:
- your name and cell phone number
- year, make, and model of vehicle
- license plate number and state of registration
A visitor's parking pass must be visible on your dashboard at all times while parked in University lots.
Dining:
There are several places to eat on campus while school is in session, fall to spring. Spike's, Sub Connection, Freshens Smoothie Company and the Marketplace are located in the COG. The Crosby Cafe and Cherry Blossom are located in the Crosby Student Center. Cataldo Hall offers Jazzman's and Pandini's. Spike's, the Marketplace, Sub Connection and the Crosby Cafe are open limited hours in the summer.
