Five organizations directly involve students of Mechanical Engineering.
The primary professional organization to which you should belong is ASME. Our student chapter meets monthly and engages in a variety of activities including plant trips, assisting charities, and attending and competing at Northwest regional conferences. This group also hosts an annual barbecue and an annual chili feed for students, staff, and faculty of the School of Engineering. Information about joining this group may be obtained from the ASME Faculty Advisor, Mr. John Dacquisto (email@example.com).
Our School has a student chapter of SWE, and our majors are active in this organization and regularly serve as officers. Our students have also participated in presentation contests, the Mini-Baja competition, and other activities of SAE and SME, although we do not have active student chapters.
Several of our students are inducted every year into the national engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi, and often serve as officers of our student chapter. If you are able to maintain a high grade point average, you may expect an invitation to join this prestigious organization during your junior or senior year.
Information about all of these organizations may be obtained from the Department Chair.
