                      Artificial Life CS 105

See How Our World Will Be Changed-

CPSC 105 Sec. 2-Introduction to Artificial Life

Cutting edge research underway around the world promises to radically alter the way humans interact with one another. CPSC 105 introduces students to the new field of Artificial Life and its challenge to many modern assumptions about human culture, rationality, law, sexuality, ethics, economics, and personhood. CPSC 105 will introduce students to technical aspects of the field and engage in philosophical discussion about the meaning of these advances for human self-understanding and human culture.

Welcome to Gonzaga University's Computer Science Department!

The Department of Computer Science at Gonzaga University emphasizes high quality instruction in an atmosphere where undergraduates work closely with each other and faculty.  With small class sizes students find ample opportunity to work on projects with the guidance of dedicated faculty members.

The department is located in the newly renovated Herak Engineering Building. The program has its own extensive computing laboratory which includes a network of modern workstations running Windows operating systems and a Linux Server.  The department also owns a network of microcomputers running Linux that was funded by the National Science Foundation and is used to study data communications and operating systems.

Dr. Crowley and Matt Bergman discuss new ICCSL lab
The School of Engineering and Applied Science received a large donation of network servers and components ($778,000) from Intel. The Intel gift will be part of the Intel Corp. Computational Sciences Lab in the new PACCAR Center. (Click here for our website)
The ICCSL will provide the computational tools necessary for faculty and students to plan large-scale research projects.

The diverse skills required of modern computer science professionals cannot be learned solely in a classroom or from a textbook. Skills are best learned through a combination of observation, emulation, analysis and experimentation (this demands a high degree of interaction between the student and experienced industry professionals). Gonzaga University recognizes the new demands being imposed on computer scientists and is committed to providing its computer science students with the best preparation possible.

The Department of Computer Science offers a Bachelors degree in Computer Science.  If you have further questions please feel free to contact us.

At a recent Computer Science event in Spokane, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates said this during a taped message to computer science students and teachers, “In the coming decades, the magic of software will change our world in ways we haven’t even dreamed of yet, but for some reason there’s a perception that opportunities within the IT field are declining.  The truth is the power and potential of the IT industry have barely been tapped. Today there are more opportunities than ever before and companies like Microsoft continue to be challenged by a shortage of skilled IT workers."
