EE & CPEN 1 - Downtown Network Model
Student Team: 3 EE's, 2 ME's
Advisor: Dr. Peter McKenny
Sponsoring Organization: Avista
Liaison: Dave James
Project Background:
The electrical power distribution network in downtown Spokane was installed in multiple stages over several decades. This network is sufficient for current needs, but has not been modeled electrically or for heat load. The goals of this project are to:
EE: Create a computer model of today's network (PowerWorld application) and project necessary improvements for 5 years and 10 years from now.
ME: Thermal model various portions of the network for temperature rise and safety. This modeling should parallel the EE modeling.
Project Deliverables:
1. Negotiated project scope and solidify deliverables early in the project.
2. Create a project plan in the initial report.
3. EE:
a. PowerWorld model the current downtown network.
b. Generate a 5 year and 10 year projection of power needs.
c. Models based on projected needs.
4. ME:
a. Thermal models of current network at current loading.
b. Thermal models of projected needs.Project Management and Communication Expectations:
Create project plan with deliverables, workbreak down, gantt chart, etc.
Weekly communications with the liaison engineer for project status.
Project Research:
TBD
