Project Background:
Gonzaga Senior Design projects the past 2 years have developed two products to improve living conditions in Zambia (Africa). One product is a ceramic water filter so people can purify their own drinking water and reduce disease rates. The second product is a thermal-electric powered fan to remove smoke from kitchens where open-pit fires are used for cooking. The reduction in smoke in the center of these homes is a major health advantage.
This project will create a small workshop facility to produce these products. The workshop will be located in Zambia so that support for the products is local to the users. The workshop is also intended to be a sustainable economic benefit to the site. This project team will begin the two year effort to create the workshop.

Project Goal:
The project is two years in length and involves setting up the shop in Africa during the summer of 2013. Deliverables for each half of the project (year 1 and year 2) are to be negotiated at the beginning of the project.
Project Management & Communication:
1. Project plan that clearly delineates the work to be completed in year 1 and year 2. This plan is to be negotiated with the faculty sponsor on the EPA grant (Noel Bormann or his designee).2. Weekly meeting minutes and progress reports.
3. Other management expectations as set by the faculty adviser.
