Gonzaga University Student Media publishes three literary journals annually in the Spring semester of the academic year: Reflection, Charter, and Our Voices.
Each journal consists of works created by current students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
- Reflection is Gonzaga's journal of poetry and prose.
- Charter is Gonzaga's journal of scholarship and opinion.
- Our Voices is Gonzaga's journal of diversity, equity and social justice.
All students, regardless of major or academic year, are encouraged to submit to the journals!
Pieces accepted include poetry, prose, longer essay writing, short stories, fiction, non-fiction, photography, and artworks.
Fall Deadline for submission: November 2, 2026
This year's Journal themes:
Reflection's 2026-2027 Theme - Volta
A volta is a turn—a shift in thought, tone, image, or direction. In poetry, it’s the pivot that reframes what came before. In prose, it’s the moment a narrative, a voice, or a world alters course. In visual art, it’s the point where contrast, composition, or perspective changes what the viewer perceives.
For this year’s theme, we invite work that engages with these moments of turning. Volta is an exploration of change as an artistic force—the rupture, reversal, or subtle shift that transforms a piece from within. We’re interested in how creators use structure, contrast, rhythm, and perspective to generate movement, tension, or revelation.
A volta can be dramatic or understated, conceptual or aesthetic. It might appear as a break in pattern, a shift in voice, a sudden reorientation of narrative logic, or a visual disruption that alters meaning. We welcome poetry, prose, and visual art that experiment with these pivots, whether through form, imagination, abstraction, or narrative play.
Let this theme be an opening rather than a limit. Show us the turns that reshape your work—the hinge where something unexpected happens, and the piece becomes something new.
Our Voice's 2026-2027 Theme - Harmony
Our theme this year is harmony! We aim to focus on rebuilding and cohesion while recognizing our similarities through our differences. Harmony shows us that each of our unique melodies complement each other to make a beautiful symphony. While this is our theme for this year, we accept works that do not necessarily fit the theme as well.
Charter's 2026-2027 Theme - Confluence
Charter's theme this year represents the idea of two or more concepts coming together. A way of ideas flowing and meeting an overall theme/thesis. In other words, a concept of connection between thoughts and the way they all meet back together. In an academic essay, one of many ways "confluence" may appear is through the use of sub-claims (no matter how relevant to each other) coming together as a way to emphasize the overall thesis.
