August 23-27, 2026
GOOB Olympic Peninsula is a fun and exciting extended orientation trip for 30 new Gonzaga students. GOOB is a fantastic opportunity to bond with other incoming first year students in the outdoors and meet our fun-loving student Trip Leaders who run GOOB. On August 23rd, students will need to fly into Seattle-Tacoma airport where GU Outdoors will pick them up and shuttle them to our GOOB venue. All students will then be driven back to campus following the completion of GOOB and move into their residential housing on August 27th. Please note that this session of GOOB will start in Seattle rather than on campus, and students will not have an opportunity to move into their dorm rooms before the program. The program will end in Spokane. If you want to participate in this program, please make a plan to have the things you plan to move into your dorm room meet you in Spokane after this program ends.
Each day, GOOB participants break into three groups to embark on a full day excursion with student Trip Leaders. One day is spent as a guided Sea Kayaking tour in Freshwater Bay where we navigate ocean tides and learn about intertidal life. Another day is spent biking on the beautiful and esteemed Olympic Adventure Trail. This trail is not technical or overly steep; however, it incorporates some winding single-track challenges and downhill sections. The third day is a scenic hike that begins at Lake Crescent and follows Barnes Creek through lush undergrowth and old growth forest. Although there are 3 different groups for the day trips, we regroup at basecamp each evening to enjoy a dinner prepared by student leaders.
After dinner each night, activities are focused on fun, community, and preparation for life at Gonzaga. This is a great bonding experience for incoming students and an opportunity to meet and build connections with upper division students.
