Application Process

All applicants for the Carl Maxey Social Justice Scholarship Program must apply through the application for admission to Gonzaga Law School. Applicants must include a supplemental essay of 500 words (or less) addressing how they would contribute to the mission of the program. The essay should address your demonstrated commitment to social justice, your potential and promise to be a leader, and your contribution to the diversity of the profession.

Each aspiring Maxey Scholar must also bring diversity to the program and to the profession, in terms of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability status, gender identity and expression, immigration status, honorably discharged veteran or military status, and socio-economic background. Individuals from traditionally underrepresented groups in law school in general and Gonzaga University in particular are especially encouraged to apply.

Applications will be reviewed beginning February 15. If your application for admission is not complete at this date, you may not be considered for the award. Finalists for the Carl Maxey Social Justice Scholarship Program will be asked to participate in an interview before a decision on your application is made. Admitted applicants must submit their $500 deposit by April 15. If you are selected as a Social Justice Scholars and you make your $500 confirmation, you are expected to enroll at Gonzaga Law.
