Instrument: Optomet SWIR
Manufacturer: Optomet
General Description: Scanning laser vibrometers measure surface vibrations through the Doppler effect using laser interferometry. The instruments direct a laser beam at a surface and analyze the frequency shift of reflected light to determine velocity and displacement. Motorized scanning mirrors enable automated measurement across multiple points or full-field mapping of vibration patterns. Short-wave infrared lasers operating at wavelengths around the infrared spectrum provide eye-safe operation and effective measurements on dark, rough, or absorbing surfaces without surface preparation. The systems feature integrated optical visualization for alignment and can accommodate various working distances. Applications include modal analysis, acoustic characterization, structural dynamics assessment, and operational vibration testing across automotive, aerospace, materials research, and mechanical engineering disciplines.
