State Authorization and Distance Learning

Gonzaga University is a participating member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). Participation in SARA allows institutions to offer distance education to students outside the institution's home state.

State Licensures

Each state and territory has different professional licensure and certification requirements for certain professions. Gonzaga University works to confirm its programs meet the educational prerequisites for states outside Washington. Additional out-of-state licensure requirements may include professional examinations, fieldwork or clinical preceptorships, background checks, years of work experience, fingerprinting requirements, etc.

Students who are considering an academic program that may allow them to pursue professional licensure are strongly encouraged to check their state's or territory's requirements and contact the appropriate agency to seek information and additional guidance before beginning a program. Below you'll find a list of Gonzaga programs with the licensure determination and the contact info for the relevant agency in each state.

Potential changes in requirements: Students who plan to pursue licensure outside of Washington state should be aware that state licensure requirements are subject to changes. While a program may originally meet the educational requirements for licensure, changes in requirements could impact the program's ability to meet any new educational requirements. Students should always check with their state licensure board to confirm licensure requirements.

Important note for relocating during the course of a program: Prospective and current students should keep in mind that licensing and authorization requirements vary by state and that relocating during the course of a program to another state could impact licensure eligibility. If students are considering relocating, they should contact their degree program to check for authorization and licensure eligibility requirements.

See the degree programs below for information on professional licensure in your state.

In order to be eligible to sit for the Uniform CPA Exam required for licensure in all states, students must meet the education requirements in effect for that state. State licensing requirements vary and students may need to take additional coursework beyond the required BBA-Accounting degree courses to meet the licensing education requirements in a given state. Students should meet with their advisor to determine an academic coursework plan that is suitable to meet their academic and professional goals, including CPA licensure. The table below specifies whether the collective Gonzaga course offerings enable a CPA license candidate to meet the education requirements for each given state.
