Admission Deadlines and Information

Application and Admission Process

Applicants to the Doctor of Educational Leadership program must hold a master's degree or its equivalent and have at least five years of professional experience in the pre-K-12 school environment. Admission to the program is based on a review of recommendations, transcript evaluation, and personal written statement, with careful attention to the fit between the needs of the student and the program's offering. We admit on a cohort basis, with each cohort beginning in summer semester, typically the first week in July.

EdD faculty will begin reviewing applications in mid-January, and will continue to review applications until the cohort has reached capacity. Additional review will occur in mid-February and mid-March. We will notify prospective students of admission decisions within 15 days of the receipt of a completed application. The latest we can review application materials for admission to the nearest summer start is mid-March, which will result in an admission decision of April 1.

The faculty of the EdD program will determine admission into the program using a rubric-based evaluation of prior academic work, three recommendations, resume, written statement, and interview. Determination will be made through the use of weighted criteria. Admissions will be determined in the spring before the cohort summer start date.

Transfer Credits

Although it is presumed that all work for the EdD will be completed at Gonzaga University, the School of Education may accept up to 6 credit hours from another university for relevant doctoral work, specific to Gonzaga's EdD program, in which a grad of "B" or higher was awarded. Credit may be awarded at the discretion of the EdD Program Director. Please contact Graduate Admissions if you have questions about transfer credit.
