1. Eligibility A) All athletes trying out for the Gonzaga Cheerleading team must be a full-time undergraduate student. B) Cheerleaders must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. C) Cheerleaders must retain good academic standing with the University and have good conduct in and out of the classroom. D) Sufficient physical fitness, strength, and athletic skills to perform required skills. E) Have submitted a completed Physical Exam form to Head Athletic Trainer, Steve DeLong. F) Have submitted a completed the Tryout Application to Coach Vicki Tiffany. All required paperwork must be processed by the Head Athletic Trainer prior to participating in tryouts. Tryout Attire A) Athletes should come dressed prepared to workout. Females should have hair pulled up or back. B) Appropriate athletic/cheer shoes will be worn at all times. C) All jewelry should be removed, including nose, ear or belly rings. 3. Selection Process A) Selection of cheerleaders is based on the expertise of a panel of judges which includes the Head Cheerleading Coach. Notification of acceptance to the team will be posted after Final Tryouts. 4. Tryout Dates Tryouts for the 2013-2014 Gonzaga Cheerleading Team are scheduled on the following days: Tryout Information Meeting Tuesday, September 3, 7:00 pm Dress comfortable (i.e. cheer shoes, work out clothes). You will perform spotting and toss drills Tryout Practices/Workshop Friday, September 6, 5:00 - 7:45 pm Saturday, September 7, 10:30 am - 1:30 pm Friday, September 13, 5:00 - 7:45 pm Saturday, September 14, 10:30 am - 2:00 pm Final Tryouts Sunday, September 15, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm 5. Skill Requirements: Females cheer & dance (taught at workshop) standing back-handspring 3 jumps (toe touch required) all-girl extension (as base & flyer) toss\walk hands timed 2-mile run Males toss\walk hands 6. Team Requirements: Weekly practices September through March. Commitment to prescribed strength & conditioning program. Perform at home Men's and Women's Basketball games. Special events sanctioned by the Athletic Department. If selected, travel is mandatory. Attend GEL Weekend and Freshmen Welcome Night.
