London Library Services

Foley Library is still available to you even in London!

Did you know that as a student enrolled in the London Program you still have access to Foley Library? Log in to our online databases to do your research and retrieve online articles, use your ILLiad account to request articles you can't find online and don't forget, our librarians are just an e-mail away if you need help or have a question.

What services are available?

  • Access to our article indexes and databases including:
    • Academic Search Premier
    • JSTOR

    • MLA (Modern Language Association)

    • ProQuest

    • Religion & Philosophy Collection

  • Access to Periodicals @ Foley, your gateway to online full-text articles from the university's subscriptions to electronic journals and online databases.
  • If you need journal articles from Foley Library's print collection, they will be scanned and sent to you electronically.
  • If you need an article from a journal that we don't have here at Gonzaga, you can use your ILLiad account to request an Interlibrary Loan. These articles are also delivered electronically.
  • Reference Assistance by e-mail or online chat. Click on the Contact Us link on the library homepage to view your options.

  • If you have hardware or software questions or problems contact IT Support Center at helpdesk@gonzaga.edu

Do I need my Gonzaga ID card to use the library from London?

  • Your Gonzaga ID number is your library ID number. You'll need this number to access your Foley Library account and when you register for an ILLiad (Interlibrary Loan) account.
  • To use the online databases you will be asked to log in using the same user name and password you use for ZagMail or Blackboard.  If you have trouble logging in, contact the IT Support Center - helpdesk@gonzaga.edu
Can I get books?

Sorry, no. (Even though there are many library staff members who have willingly volunteered to make personal deliveries to London!).  The of the cost and time involved to ship books to you, not to mention what it would cost you to return them, prevents us from offering our usual book loan service while you are abroad.

How do I get articles?

  • Foley subscribes to a number of databases that have full-text access (PDF or HTML) to articles. If the article you need isn't available in the database you're searching in, click on the Full-Text Options link to check for access in a different database. The Full Text Options link you'll see when searching a database, takes you to Periodicals @ Foley, which is the list of all the journals (online and in print) available to you through Foley Library.
  • If the article you need isn't available online, but we have it here at Foley in paper format, use ILLiad to request the article. We will scan it and send you a copy electronically.
  • If the article you need is neither online nor available in Foley Library,we can get it for you through Interlibrary Loan. Again, place a request for the article through ILLiad.

What is ILLiad?

  • ILLiad is our Interlibrary Loan system. While you are in London, you can use ILLiad to request copies of articles from the Foley Library print collection as well as any article that is not available online.
  • In order to use ILLiad, you must first register for an account. For more information see our ILLiad FAQ
  • YOUR SPECIAL STATUS:
    • While participating in the London program, please use "STUDY ABROAD" as your status in ILLiad.
    • Use "London Program" as your street address.
    • Put an 'x' in other fields that don't apply to your current situation.
    • Remember to update your address information in ILLiad when you come back!

What kind of information should I provide for an article request?

  • Provide as much information as possible - complete information expedites service!
  • You will need to include: Article title, author's name, and journal name along with the volume number, date, and page numbers.

How long will it take to receive an article once I put in the request?

  • We process requests on a first-come, first-served basis. At busy times of the year, we will process up to five requests from one individual per day.
  • We can usually scan and post articles from our print collection within 2  business days.
  • Articles not owned by Gonzaga will be requested from another library through the ILL (interlibrary loan) service. Availability and processing time varies, but typically you will receive articles within 2-5 days of the request date.

How will I receive an article I've requested through ILLIad?

  • A PDF of the article will be posted to your ILLiad account and you will be notified by e-mail that it is available. It's a good idea to save a copy of the article right away as it will be removed from the ILLiad server after 30 days.
