Dr. Diane (Doc) Tunnell is a true "Okie from Muskogee." Born, raised, and educated in Oklahoma, she came to the northwest in 1987 looking for a place to call home. Dr. Tunnell received her Bachelor's degree, a teaching certification, and Master's degree from Northeastern Oklahoma State University. She then began her teaching career and taught health and physical education in the K-12 system for the next 10 years. During this time she was also afforded the opportunity to adjunct instruct at her alma mater. This gave her the desire to return to school and persue a doctorate so that she could teach at the university level. In 1994, she quit her teaching job and returned to school fulltime at Oklahoma State University where she received her doctorate.
