What course(s) do you teach in the M.A. in Sport and Athletic Administration program?
SPMT 501: Sport Media and Communication
What is your career/research background?
I worked professionally as a local TV sports anchor/reporter here in Spokane. I also served as the Director of Public Relations for the Spokane Indians Baseball Club. In terms of research, my interests are primarily around local sports media practitioners and the evolving role of sports content in local journalism.
What are you looking forward to in the spring semester?
I’m looking forward to working with the MASAA students in my 501 course and taking them to cover a Zags Baseball game for one of our assignments.
What is your favorite sport/team?
The Phoenix Suns
What do you love about the sport industry?
I love how sports connects people and communities. I love the conversations that can spark from a common interest in a sport or a team. So many of my favorite memories are attending or watching sporting events with friends and families.
What advice do you have for students?
You get out what you put into your educational experience. Make the most of your opportunities in sports. You may have long-term professional goals but there are a lot of steps that go into that journey.
What is a skill or talent most people don’t know about you?
My family says I make the best scrambled eggs for breakfast.What are you happiest doing when you are not working?
I’m happiest running around Disneyland with my family (wife and two girls, ages 7 & 4).
