Application Requirements

School of Education Graduate Application Requirements

Application items are to be submitted to the School of Education Graduate Admissions Office. In special circumstances, students applying for admission will be permitted to take graduate courses for six (6) semester credits maximum while their graduate application materials are completed and considered. No more than six (6) graduate credits are applicable toward the degree before admission.

General Admission Requirements:
  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.

  2. A completed graduate application for admission.

  3. A $50.00 non-refundable application fee (paid online upon submission of application). The fee is waived if the applicant is a prior Gonzaga University graduate. 

  4. One (1) official transcript from each college or university attended. (International applicants must submit foreign transcripts in the original language and an English copy). If you attend Gonzaga, please note that GU transcripts are ordered by the Graduate Admissions Office on your behalf.

  5. Official scores from the Graduate Records Exam (GRE) general aptitude test or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT), if your chosen program requires it. Scores must be less than five years old. This requirement may be waived if you have completed an advanced degree.

  6. Two (2) confidential recommendations to be sent directly from the recommending persons via application for admission. (Please note: family member recommendations are not accepted.)

  7. A written statement of purpose addressing the applicant's interest in graduate studies relating to some area in the field, assessing the applicant's current strengths and describing what the applicant hopes to gain from a master's degree program. If using a letter format, please address the letter to Dr. Vincent Alfonso, Dean. Please check with the department for which you are applying for further instructions specific to the department.

International students:
  1. Submission of an official TOEFL score of at least 550 by each international applicant who has graduated from a foreign college or university and whose native language is not English.

  2. Submission of a financial declaration and supporting documentation by each international applicant.

Additional or waived requirements see specific program below:
  1. MIT applicants do not need to take the GRE/MAT for admission.

  2. Master’s in Leadership and Administration requires a professional resume and two recommendations – one from a supervisor and one from a colleague. GRE/MAT tests are not required for admission.

  3. M.Ed. in Special Education requires a professional resume. GRE/MAT tests are not required for admission.

  4. MA in Sport and Athletic Administration does not require applicants to take the GRE/MAT tests for admission and a professional resume is required.
