Professor Garza is a graduate of the University of Texas – Austin and Stanford Law School. After graduating from law school, she briefly practiced Labor and Employment Law at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld LLP in Washington D.C. Professor Garza then joined the Family Law section at Fulbright & Jaworski LLP (now Norton Rose Fulbright) in Houston, Texas.
