Amy Pistone joined the Gonzaga Classical Civilizations department in the fall of 2019 and is thrilled to be a part of the vibrant classics community. She earned her BA from the University of California, Berkeley in 2008 and her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 2017. Her specialties are Greek tragedy as well as feminist theory and inclusive pedagogy. She has also worked on symposiastic culture in the ancient world and modern uses of classics in pop culture (including Tolkien and fan fiction) and is very interested in ways that Greek and Roman culture interacts with our contemporary world.

She is particularly excited to be at Gonzaga University, where the mission aligns with her own personal commitment to social justice in the classroom and in the field of classics. She is also a member of the Steering Committee for the Women's Classical Caucus and a co-chair of the Classics and Social Justice group.
