There are several reasons why I came to Gonzaga. First, and foremost, the opportunity to work alongside Dr. Alfonso is a highlight for me as a professional. Second, there is a critical shortage of school psychologists in the nation and within the state of Washington. I feel that this is part of my professional responsibility to help give back to the profession through the development of a new program. Doing so will better serve students and the community alike. Third, Gonzaga has a reputation as a leader within the state and region. I feel truly blessed and excited to be a part of Gonzaga and to be surrounded by great colleagues. One of the things that I hope to bring to the SOE is a positive attitude and willingness to tackle the difficult challenges currently facing the educational landscape. I hope to do this through the preparation of highly qualified school psychology candidates as well as through my own collaborative efforts with other key stakeholders within education. I feel that each challenge brings an opportunity for problem-solving. The challenges and opportunities, however, are too much for one person to tackle alone. Therefore, through collaborative efforts, I hope to create new opportunities and better experiences for the students that we serve. I wish that I could say that I wanted to be a school psychologist! As a child though, I wanted to be a professional baseball player. I grew up in western Washington when Ken Griffey, Jr. was coming through the ranks. I viewed him as a role model and tried to emulate his abilities in everything 'baseball' that I did. Unfortunately, the professional baseball route did not work out for me but through playing competitive baseball for much of my life, I was afforded the opportunities to meet my wife, meet some of my best friends, and travel around the country and internationally.
