Dr. Kevin Brown received his Ph.D. in systematic theology from Boston College (with a minor concentration in theological ethics) and his M.A. and B.A. from Loyola Marymount University. Currently, he is Director of the Graduate Program (Master of Arts in Theology and Leadership) and a Lecturer in the Department of Religious Studies at Gonzaga University. He also co-leads Gonzaga’s participation in CENTERS (the Catholic Education Network to Enact and Resource Synodality), a multi-year collaboration between sixteen US Catholic institutions of higher education and ministry formation who collectively received a $10-million grant to support local projects at each institution as well as regional and national initiatives.
Dr. Brown researches and publishes primarily in the areas of ecclesiology, synodality, Catholic sexual abuse, theologies of ministry and discipleship, feminist and liberation theologies, Jewish–Christian relations, ecumenism, the Second Vatican Council, and the work of Sandra Schneiders, IHM. In 2020, he and Drs. Megan K McCabe and Michelle Wheatley received a subgrant through Fordham University’s initiative, Taking Responsibility: Jesuit Educational Institutions Confront the Causes and Legacy of Sexual Abuse, to organize and host a seminar style conference exploring the intersection of racism, colonialism, and white supremacy in cases of Catholic sexual abuse in historically marginalized communities. He has served as the editor of the Proceedings of the Catholic Theological Society of America since 2019.
At Gonzaga, Dr. Brown teaches undergraduate courses in Catholicism, Principles of Christian Ethics, Global Christologies: Jesus of Nazareth in Global Perspective, and Liberation Theologies for the religious studies department, honors program, solidarity and social justice minor, and Catholic studies program. He also teaches graduate level courses in fundamental and systematic theology, church history, and theologies of ministry and leadership in the MA in Theology and Leadership program.
