How to Calculate a Grade Point Average:
- List your classes, Credit/Hours and grade
- Assign Points to your Grades.* (Do not assign points to grades of P)
- Multiply Credits/Hours together. Add Grade Points together. (Do not add in the credits for classes graded P.)
- Divide total Grade Points by total Credits/Hours.
| Class | Credits | Grade | Points | Grade Pts. |
| Hist 101 | 3 | A | 4 | 12 |
| Geog 102 | 2 | B | 3 | 6 |
| Eng 101 | 4 | C | 2 | 8 |
| 9 | 26 | |||
| 26 ÷ 9 = 2.88 GPA |
Calculating GPA from more than one college:
- Look at end of each transcript for:
- total Credits/Hours
- total Grade/Quality points
- Change term Credits/Hours to semester Credits/Hours if necessary. (See below),
- Add total Credits/Hours from College A to total Credits/Hours from College B.
- Add total Grade/Quality points from College A to total Grade/Quality points from College B
- Divide the total Grade/Quality points by the total Credits/Hours to get the GPA.
| Institution | Credits/Hours | Grade/Quality pts | (GPA) |
| College A | 14 | 56 | (4.0) |
| College B | 100 | 264 | (2.6) |
| 114 | 320 |
320 ÷ 114 = 2.81
Changing from term credits to semester credits
Determine how many term credits you need to change to semester credits. Then follow this formula:
(2 x Qtr Hrs) ÷ 3
*
| A = 4.0 | C+ = 2.3 |
| A- = 3.7 | C = 2.0 |
| B+ = 3.3 | C- = 1.7 |
| B = 3.0 | D+ = 1.3 |
| B- = 2.7 | D = 1.0 |
