Dr. R. Brian Siebeking specializes in Islamic history and thought with a focus on the classical and medieval period. His research attends to the formative role of stories and storytelling in Muslim tradition. Dr. Siebeking’s dissertation explores the relationship between literary form and didactic function in the Islamic tales of the prophets, and he is preparing a manuscript on the Muslim accounts of the legend of St. George. His other research and teaching interests include the Quran, Sufism, Islam and politics, Christian-Muslim relations, and minority religions in the Middle East. Dr. Siebeking has been invited to give talks on Islam in several academic and ecclesiastical forums. He is a member of the American Academy of Religion (AAR), Middle East Medievalists (MEM), and the Hagiography Society. He joined the faculty in 2016.
