Portrait of Bernadette Calafell, Ph.D. Professor & Chair of Critical Race & Ethnic Studies

I received my Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina and my B.A. and M.A. in Communication Studies from the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication at Arizona State University. Prior to coming to Gonzaga University, I was a faculty member at Syracuse University and University of Denver. My research and teaching interests are in women of color feminisms, queer of color theories, performance studies, critical rhetoric, and monstrosity/horror. I love teaching in Critical Race and Ethnic Studies, and especially love teaching Hip-Hop Feminisms, Monstrosity and Race, and Queer of Color Theories. I’d love to tell you more about the Department of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies and our minor. Please feel free to contact me to set up an appointment.

You can learn more about my research, teaching, service, and activism at https://www.bernadettephd.com or my google scholar page.
